Complementary thinking is based on the laws and principles of the Coordinational paradigm of development (CPD) as the philosophy, methodology and ideology of complementarity, alternative ideology of tolerance and the dialectical paradigm of development. In accordance with the CPD by Irina M. Miroshnik, unity and coordination of complementary (mutually corresponding) opposites, their selective coordinational simultanisation (from simultaneously) in the process of complementary interaction defines a Universal Code of Development, which is the basis of harmonic complementary thinking. Unlike disharmonic dialectical thinking, coordinational complementary thinking, which implements the universal code of development, is initially peculiar to the child and is aimed at establishing complementary relations with the world. Complementary thinking develops in different types and forms of external and internal coordination activities. A study of the synesthetic coordination ability to sound-color simultanisation (I.M.Miroshnik, 1983-1987) showed that young children can selectively, emotionally indirectly coordinate complementary inter-modal stimuli (for example, music and color maps). In this complementary sensual thinking, which is not syncretic, the universal code of development as a necessary condition of giftedness and health is actualized in children. In the process of coordinational complementary thinking new coordination connections are established, creative abilities and plasticity of the brain are developed.
